Frequently Asked Questions
Q Can IG2 (with its tiny micro holes) handle larger volumes of running water?
A Yes! When IG2 is installed according to our InvisiGuard Instructions, it can handle all the water running even off large roof valleys. Refer to InvisiGuard Instructions for details.
Q Will leaves and debris remain on IG2?
A If debris remains on your roof until the wind blows it off, this will also occur with IG2. However, water will still drain through, so it won't affect performance. Of course, IG2 must be installed correctly, according to our instructions. Correct installation will minimize the accumulation of debris (IG2 works best when it is stretched and angled outward, as recommended).
Q Will IG2 micro holes become clogged over time?
A Our two-years plus real life experience with IG2 allows us to ensure that it stays clog-free. The key again is...IG2 must be installed correctly, according to its instructions. Refer to InvisiGuard Instructions for details.
Q How does IG perform differently from IG2?
A IG has much larger mesh holes than IG2, so it has an even better filtration ability. It performs better when installed stretched and angled outward. However, it is more forgiving than IG2 with regards to flatter installation.
Q How do IG and IG2 perform during winter?
A We performed setup tests to see if IG and/or IG2 contribute to icicle build-up in winter. In addition, we compared homes with IG and IG2 to homes with gutters but no gutter guards. (By the way, we are located near Chicago, so our test homes are exposed to very wintry conditions!) Here is the summary of our observations:
- IG and IG2 perform nearly identically.
- IG and IG2 do not contribute to any "ice backups", and they do not prevent any "ice backups".
- IG and IG2 do not cause any icicle buildup on the back of the gutter (next to the roof).
- We noticed a slight increase of icicles on the gutter’s outside edge, compared to gutters without any gutter protection. This appears to be limited to the first few days after a snow fall. Several days lateronce gutters without gutter protection become filled with icethere is no difference between gutters with or without IG or IG2. If icicles are a concern, consider installing an electric heating cable right under the IG or IG2 mesh. This will enhance water drainage in freezing weather and help prevent icicles from forming.
Q Is InvisiGuard really invisible?
A Actually, no, but it’s the next best thing. The original IG is practically unnoticeable, particularly from the ground.
IG2 is more visible on some homes, due to its additional layer of stainless steel micromesh. However, unlike high-profile gutter covers, it lays flat against the gutter edge and won’t alter your roof line.
By the way, we got the name InvisiGuard from our customers, who kept saying things like, "I really like that invisible gutter guard".
